The Outlaw Josie’s CBR-III Reviews #16 &17: The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander and Bram Stoker’s Dracula

I finally read *THE* Dracula, and it was spectacular!  Genuinely scary, interesting well-managed literary approach, awesome characters (including a couple fantastic female characters) and so, so much more than usually makes it into popular Dracula mythology.  An awesome surprise, particularly since older literature is often hit-or-miss for me.  Definitely recommended!  Read the review here.

This was extremely sad and extremely important.  Michelle Alexander advances the idea that the US prison system is simply the latest iteration of systemic racism intended to keep black and brown people (men in particular) politically disconnected and unempowered.  I was not sure about this thesis when I picked the book up – and Alexander admits she was not convinced before writing it – but by the second chapter I was convinced and concerned.  Everyone should read this book.  Read the review here.
