CBR III Review #132: Red Heart Tattoo by Lurene McDaniel
This title will be released on July 24, 2012.
A bomb explodes at Edison High. Nine people die instantly and fifteen are injured. Red Heart Tattoo explores the students trying to make sense of the tragedy and regain a sense of normality.
The story follows Morgan and Roth, for the most part. They are two students on opposite sides of the social spectrum of high school. Morgan and Roth find themselves thrown together because of the circumstances surrounding the bombing and they lean on each other as they come to terms with the horror.
Considering the topic I thought this would be a huge tearjerker, but I was mostly surprised that it even though it pulled at the heart strings it didn’t go for all the gut punches that Lurene McDaniel is known for. It was a really short read, but for the most part it’s not worth picking up unless you are just drawn to McDaniel’s tragedies.
